History

PLH® was born in 2005 from a challenge: that of Enrico Corelli, owner of Epic, a leading company in the plant engineering sector, to give a “luxurious”, identifying and customizable aesthetic look to the electric control plate, until then ignored by design because it was considered a secondary factor in the décor and interior design.
The process of giving beauty, as well as technological functionality, to the electric plate was a long one, supported by curious, passionate, ongoing research that involved many design and production aspects: from in-depth experiments on materials and their behavior to a meticulous selection of suppliers willing and able to adopt the company's principles; from the creation of the first prototypes to their engineering and production with CNC machines.

Without forgetting the attention to ergonomics to make the installation easy and the use of the plate safe, as well as the creativity aimed at giving it an aesthetic plus and making it a decorative object tailored with regards to shapes, dimensions and finishes, capable of responding to the particular needs of individual customers and users.

As Corelli explains, “the PLH® plate is not hidden, it wants to be seen, perceived as an added value of interior design, a quality that makes it unique”.
All interpreted in the spirit of the founding values of the brand such as qualitative excellence, formal beauty, durability and reliability, attention to detail, sustainability of the life cycle of the products. A series of challenges within the challenge that have led PLH® to work with talented young Italian professionals who have made their specific know-how available, and to count on the genius and experience of its founder.

Trained as an industrial expert and a great lover of art and decorative and applied art, Corelli continues to carry out that activity of electrical design in general and building automation in particular thanks to which he has had the opportunity to come into contact with internationally renowned archistars, which helped to broaden and deepen his design vision and instilled in him the desire to try his hand at product design, first tackling the theme of lighting fixtures and then, precisely, electrical control plates.

He says: “Working as a system engineer in close contact with top-class professionals such as Michael Gabellini at the beginning of my professional career, I became passionate about art and interior architecture and I realized that technique is an end in itself if it cannot express harmony and beauty. And to do that, you need design. This applies to everything, even electrical systems and their visible elements such as control plates.”

“With Gabellini and Sheppard” Corelli continues “I was lucky enough to work on the Jil Sander spaces in Milan (1995), as well as on the Mall Manzoni, 31 by Giorgio Armani (1999) for which I also took care of the lighting as well as all the electrical and electronic systems. Two very formative experiences that allowed me to grow as a man and as a technician"

The first result of this approach that fuses technology and design was, in 2005, the line MakeUp. Subsequently, the PLH® catalogue was enriched with four other collections, each bearer of its own aesthetic specificity: Skin (2010 and still being expanded) Slim (2011), Keyboard, deeply renewed in 2020, and Neo (2012): a series of small masterpieces whose creation has activated effective “artistic” partnerships with prestigious internationally renowned brands including Jannelli & Volpi, Kvadrat, De Castelli, Antique Mirror, Mutaforma, Haute Material and SAI Industry and the Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana.

Furthermore, in 2017, the manual control plates were joined by those connected in wireless mode, which are the constituent elements of the PLH® Aria system. in turn also manually manageable to support a physical gesture that the user still loves.

An exceptional repertoire that, thanks to an almost infinite series of textures and finishes including the antibacterial PVD Abaco®, proves day after day to be increasingly suitable for conferring a distinctive and luxurious touch to both private residences and public and corporate architecture.

The production process

From a production perspective, the characterising element of all these collections is the processing from solid sheets of 316L stainless steel, brass, 6082 aluminium, copper and DuPontTM Corian®, through a single mechanical operation carried out with numerically controlled machines, CNC.

The preparation of the products follows a certified, traceable and rigorously made in Italy supply chain, developed after a careful selection of its actors.
For each phase and type of processing, PLH® and its staff, in order to guarantee the best final result in terms of quality and finishing, make use of specialists and highly competent companies in the various production sectors involved.

This is an entrepreneurial path that takes care to minimize the environmental impact and that as a final outcome offers a range of customizable collections aimed at a niche of customers who love beauty and well-cultivated luxury.

The work begins and takes shape in the PLH® Technical Office with the preparation and management of the order, rapid prototyping, and process optimization.

The following are carried out by technicians and workers of proven skill:

  • mechanical processing with 3 or 5-axis CNC work centres;
  • pre or post treatment marking with laser or plotter with UV varnishes;
  • surface finishing: sandblasting, satin finishing, polishing, tumbling;
  • surface treatment: painting, anodizing, galvanizing, acid etching, PVD;
  • customization, for example by using different covering materials (Skin collection);
  • the assembly;
  • testing and quality control;
  • packaging with proprietary PLH® packaging.
